The Hollywoodbets Pro Series produced another entertaining weekend of women’s cricket as Week Four saw the Fidelity Titans, YesPlay Cobras, Garden Route Badgers and Warriors battle it out across the Pro50 and Pro20 competitions on Saturday and Sunday.
The weekend belonged to the Titans and Badgers in the shortest format, with both sides maintaining unbeaten records in the Pro20 competition. The defending champions YesPlay Cobras, meanwhile, bounced back from Saturday’s victory over the Titans with a convincing performance in the 50-over format, while the Warriors continued to show glimpses of promise despite suffering defeats in both matches.
Cobras End Titans’ Unbeaten Pro50 Run
Saturday’s Pro50 action saw the defending champions YesPlay Cobras hand the Fidelity Titans their first defeat of the campaign, winning by five wickets at St Alban’s College in Tshwane. The Titans, who had entered the contest unbeaten after victories over the Hollywoodbets Dolphins and DP World Lions, were bowled out for 135 in 32.3 overs. Caitlin Wyngaard top-scored with 40 off 45 balls, while Luyanda Nzuza contributed 32 from 49 deliveries. Cobras captain Leah Jones was the standout bowler, taking 3/17, while Kayla Reyneke claimed 2/12.
The Cobras made light work of the chase, reaching 138/5 in 35.1 overs. Lara Goodall anchored the innings with an unbeaten 58 off 91 balls, striking six boundaries to guide the defending champions home. The victory moved the Cobras into second position on the Pro50 table after three matches, while the Titans suffered their first defeat of the season.
Dercksen Stars as Badgers Claim First Pro50 Win
In Oudtshoorn, the Garden Route Badgers marked their return to action in impressive fashion, defeating the newly promoted Warriors by 98 runs at the Recreation Ground. The Badgers posted 243/8 from their 50 overs, with Verunissa Reddy leading the way with a composed 52 off 70 balls. Izel Cilliers added an unbeaten 41, while Nicolien Janse van Rensburg contributed 19 during the late stages of the innings.
The Warriors started their chase positively, with Jana Nell and Kwanga Pinini putting together a 66-run opening partnership. Nell top-scored with 36 from 38 balls, but the Warriors' momentum disappeared rapidly after the opening stand was broken. Annerie Dercksen produced a career-best performance, claiming 5/44 to dismantle the Warriors' middle and lower order.
Jané Winster also played a key role with 3/28 as the Warriors were bowled out for 145 in 37 overs. The result gave the Badgers their first Pro50 victory of the campaign and moved them away from the bottom of the standings.
Titans Bounce Back in Pro20
The Titans responded emphatically on Sunday, returning to winning ways with a nine-wicket demolition of the YesPlay Cobras. The Cobras posted 136/6 after being sent in to bat, with Faye Tunnicliffe making 41 from 30 balls and Kayla Reyneke remaining unbeaten on 40 from 36 deliveries. Paulinah Mashishi was the pick of the Titans attack, finishing with excellent figures of 2/10 from her four overs as the Titans kept the Cobras from building a bigger total.
In reply, Anneke Bosch produced the innings of the weekend, smashing an unbeaten 78 from just 45 deliveries. Her knock included 13 fours and a six. Bosch shared a dominant opening partnership of 105 with Luyanda Nzuza, who contributed 34 from 31 balls. Suné Luus then joined Bosch at the crease to finish the chase, with the Titans reaching 137/1 in just 15.2 overs. The victory saw the Titans maintain their perfect Pro20 record with three wins from three matches and remain at the top of the standings.
Badgers Complete Weekend Double
The Garden Route Badgers also completed a successful weekend after defeating the Warriors by five wickets in Sunday's Pro20 encounter. The Warriors struggled to build momentum with the bat, finishing on 92/9 from their 20 overs. Zizipho Mdebuka top-scored with 20, while Alyssa Erxleben contributed 14.
Dercksen once again proved influential with the ball, following her five-wicket haul on Saturday with figures of 3/22. Winster and Yolandi Potgieter added two wickets apiece. The Badgers chased down the target in 15.3 overs, reaching 94/5.
Babette de Leede led the response with 28, while Courtney Gounden added 18. The victory extended the Badgers' unbeaten start in the Pro20 competition to two matches and placed them second behind the Titans.
Week Four highlighted the competitive nature of the Hollywoodbets Pro Series, with teams producing contrasting results across the two formats. For the Titans, Saturday's defeat provided a setback in their Pro50 campaign, but their commanding response on Sunday demonstrated their ability to bounce back quickly. The Cobras, meanwhile, showed their championship pedigree by ending the Titans' unbeaten 50-over run before falling to a heavy defeat in the T20 fixture.
The Badgers enjoyed perhaps the most rewarding weekend, claiming their first Pro50 victory of the season before following it up with another win in the Pro20. Dercksen was central to that success, producing a five-wicket haul and a three-wicket haul across the two days. For the Warriors, the weekend provided valuable experience for the newly promoted side as they continue adapting to Division 1 cricket.
With the Pro Series continuing to showcase emerging talent alongside experienced international and Proteas players, the competition is shaping up to be an exciting battle as the season progresses.
