Exciting Hollywoodbets Pro Series as Titans face Cobras while Badgers face Warriors

The Hollywoodbets Pro Series heads into its fourth week with two intriguing clashes set to take centre stage on Saturday and Sunday, as teams look to strengthen their positions in the standings and build momentum in both the Pro50 and Pro20 competitions.

The unbeaten Fidelity Titans will face defending champions YesPlay Cobras in Tshwane, while the Garden Route Badgers return to action after two bye weekends when they host Pro Series newcomers Warriors in Oudtshoorn. Both fixtures will be played across the weekend, with the Pro50 encounters scheduled for Saturday, 24 October, followed by the Pro20 matches on Sunday, 25 October. Entry to all Hollywoodbets Pro50 and Pro20 matches is free, with fans also able to follow the action live on Cricket South Africa's YouTube channel.

The Fidelity Titans have made the perfect start to their campaign, claiming consecutive victories in both formats against the Hollywoodbets Dolphins and DP World Lions to sit at the top of the standings. For head coach and former Titans cricketer Geoffrey Toyana, the early success has provided encouragement, but he knows there is still plenty of work ahead.

"It's a perfect start for us, and it's something that we don't take for granted as a group. We've got lots of work ahead, lots of learnings for us and the importance of trying to catch to those leading sides," Toyana said.

The Titans' opening two weekends have seen them overcome two highly competitive opponents, something Toyana believes demonstrates the team's ability to compete at the highest level. "We played Dolphins earlier, one of the most balanced talented teams and we played well against them, then we played Lions last week and also did well. That's what's important for me and quite important as well for us as a group, to show that we can play the game and it's possible to catch up and be that competitive space."

A major factor in the Titans' strong start has been the contribution of their experienced Proteas players. Laura Wolvaardt has been among the standout performers, while Masabata Klaas has provided experience and leadership to the bowling attack. Suné Luus has also made an impression, with Toyana highlighting the value of having a player of her calibre around the younger members of the squad. "It's been amazing having the Proteas players playing a leading role for us. Laura Wolvaardt has been world class and done well for us. She's away now to the BBL for the next few games for us and we want to wish her the best in that BBL Series."

"Suné, you know, what a talent. Very hungry to do well. It goes well for the Titans youngsters to learn a lot from players like Suné and try to better their games." Toyana also praised Klaas for the way she has led the bowling attack. "The experience of Masabata Klaas, leading that bowling unit very well with skill and calmness."

However, the Titans face perhaps their toughest challenge yet when they meet the defending champions. Toyana expects a closely fought contest against a Cobras side he holds in high regard, while also acknowledging the unfamiliar surroundings at St Alban's College. "It's a tough one for us this coming weekend, playing against my favourite coach Claire. They are a very quality side. I mean, they are the defending champions and I do expect a competitive weekend with two quality sides. We are playing at St Alban's College which is quite foreign for us. We just have to assess the conditions as we get there and make sure that we start well and we try to put them under pressure for longer periods."

In Oudtshoorn, the Garden Route Badgers will play their first home matches of the season when they welcome the Dafabet Warriors to the Recreation Ground.

The Badgers have not featured since the opening weekend of the competition, when they faced the defending champions YesPlay Cobras. They began their campaign with a defeat in the Pro50 match before bouncing back strongly the following day with a 12-run victory in the Pro20 encounter.

All-rounder Nicolien Janse van Rensburg believes there were plenty of positives to take from that opening weekend. "We came together really well as a team, and we executed our plans. We've had quite a few close games against the Cobras in the past, so it was great for us to come out on the winning side this time."

Janse van Rensburg also made an important contribution with the bat and is enjoying the freedom provided by a deep Badgers batting line-up. "Overall I was pleased with my performance this weekend, especially with the bat. We have a very strong and deep batting line-up this season and it gives me some freedom to play my natural game and to trust that the batters around me will set a good platform."

After a lengthy break from competitive action, the Badgers are eager to turn their preparation into performances on home soil. "It's been challenging not having to play for this couple of weeks after the first weekend, but I also think that we've prepared really well during this time and that we can trust the work we've put in. There was also a lot of positives to take from the weekend in both formats against the Cobras and hopefully we can build on that foundation and continue improving as a team and carry that momentum forward into this weekend and into the rest of the season."

The Warriors enter the weekend looking to bounce back after suffering defeats against the Hollywoodbets Dolphins in their opening Pro Series fixtures. Despite their opponents' difficult start, Janse van Rensburg believes the Badgers cannot afford to underestimate the newly promoted Gqeberha-based side. "It's really important to approach them like any other opposition and not underestimate them. Cricket is a funny game and anything can happen."

She expects the Warriors to be determined to make an impression in their first season in the competition. "They'll be eager to prove themselves in Division 1, so we expect them to come out strongly and we need to be prepared to play our best cricket and execute our plans well."

With both teams looking to build momentum, the Badgers will hope their return to home action can provide the platform for another strong performance, while the Warriors will be determined to register their first victories of the campaign.
