For Katlego Moletsane, earning a place in Banyana Banyana’s main squad for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations represents the latest chapter in a journey defined by patience, consistency and determination.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper, born in Mafikeng, has been part of the national-team setup since 2012. Having previously travelled as a standby player for the 2012 and 2022 WAFCON campaigns, Moletsane is now ready to seize her opportunity on the continental stage.
Her club career has taken her from Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies and Royal AM Women to the University of the Western Cape Ladies, where her performances have continued to underline her quality. During the 2025/26 campaign, she recorded 13 clean sheets in 24 appearances, conceding just 15 goals.
A former outfield player, Moletsane discovered her passion for goalkeeping after watching Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas. Her development has since earned her the Hollywoodbets Goalkeeper of the Season award for 2021/22 and a place in South Africa’s 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup squad.
Now wearing No. 21, Moletsane brings experience, resilience and ambition to Banyana Banyana. Her dream of playing in Europe remains another motivation, but in Morocco, her immediate focus is clear: make the most of an opportunity years in the making.
