Galaxy Queens, Diepkloof Set for Super League Rematch

The Hollywoodbets Super League returns to action this weekend with TS Galaxy Queens facing Diepkloof Ladies FC at the Westbourne Oval Stadium in Gqeberha on Saturday afternoon, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00.

The fixture offers Diepkloof an opportunity to rewrite the story of their first meeting with the Rockets this season.

When the two sides crossed paths at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on 26 June, Galaxy Queens emerged 4-1 winners in a five-goal encounter. Leandra Smeda struck twice, while captain Refiloe Jane and Babalwa Mngxunya also found the back of the net to put the Rockets firmly in control.

Jamie-Lee Witbooi managed to pull one back for Diepkloof from the penalty spot in the dying stages, but the damage had already been done.

With the Rockets claiming the bragging rights in the reverse fixture, Diepkloof will arrive in Gqeberha with more than three points on their minds as they look to respond to that heavy first-leg defeat.

Galaxy Queens currently occupy fourth position in the Super Era stream with 16 points, level with third-placed University of Pretoria (UP Tuks). However, their campaign has been characterised by an open balance between attack and defence.

The Rockets have scored 14 goals so far while conceding 12, leaving them with plenty of room to tighten up defensively despite having last season's Goalkeeper of the Season, Dineo Magagula, in their ranks.

For Diepkloof, the challenge is even greater.

Coach Jabulile Baloyi's charges sit seventh in the Super Era stream standings with four points, flirting with bottom-placed Stellenbosch Ladies. Their campaign has produced five goals, while they have conceded 18 — a defensive record that will be tested against a Galaxy side possessing proven firepower.

With last season's top goalscorer, Smeda and Goalkeeper of the Season both part of the Rockets' ranks, Diepkloof will have to produce a disciplined performance at both ends of the pitch if they are to leave Gqeberha with something to show for their efforts.

The stage is set for another chapter between two sides separated by 12 points, with Galaxy looking to build on their first-leg success and Diepkloof seeking a response when the action gets underway at 15:00.
