The Amplified Festival weekend produced 16 goals across eight matches as the Hollywoodbets Super League race begins to take shape.
The Hollywoodbets Super League’s penultimate round was staged at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) Stadium and delivered a weekend of goals, defensive dominance, and statement victories as the battle for supremacy intensified across the Super Rise and Super Era streams.
Across eight matches, 16 goals were scored, with several teams strengthening their positions while others were left searching for answers as the season gathers momentum.
In the Super Rise, the University of Fort Hare compounded City Lads FC’s struggles with a 2-0 victory. Copperbelt remain without a goal in the stream, highlighting the challenges they have faced in front of the goal.
First Touch FC continued their impressive campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Ezemvelo Ladies FC, a result that keeps them firmly inside the top four and within touching distance of the leading pack.
At the summit, JvW Football For Girls continued to set the pace after edging TUT Ladies 2-1. Nompumelelo Nyandeni and Sharon Maconco were on target for the Blue Diamonds, while Sibongile Thwala scored for TUT Ladies.
The victory further strengthened JvW’s grip on the top spot and underlined their consistency as the stream leaders continue to establish themselves as the team to beat.
The University of Johannesburg also secured a narrow 1-0 victory over RamatlaohleFC, adding another three points to their campaign as the competition at the top end of the Super Rise standings continues to tighten.
SUPER ERA: QASHANI STEALS THE SHOW
The standout individual performance of the weekend came from UP-Tuks forward Siyamthanda Qashani, who produced a sensational hat-trick to inspire the University of Pretoria to a commanding 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy Queens. The result handed the Rockets their heaviest defeat of the season, while AmaTuks climbed to third place.
Qashani’s treble proved decisive and showcased her clinical finishing in front of goal. AmaTuks are now level on points with TS Galaxy Queens, with UWC also firmly in the conversation in fourth place.
The weekend also produced a 2-0 victory for Copperbelt Ladies FC over Diepkloof Ladies FC, while hosts UWC made the most of home advantage with a convincing 3-0 win over Richmond Ladies. The victory keeps UWC within touching distance of the leading sides and adds further pressure to the teams above them.
SUNDOWNS KEEP THE DOOR SHUT
At the top of the Super Era standings, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies continued their extraordinary defensive record with a slender 1-0 victory over newly promoted Stellenbosch Ladies FC.
The result saw the COSAFA tournament champions maintain their position at the summit and, more significantly, extended their remarkable unbeaten defensive run.
The 50th minute strike from Noxolo Cesane marked the 22nd goal of the campaign without conceding a goal for Banyana Ba Style. With goalkeeper Andile Dlamini leading the clean-sheet charts with five shutouts, Sundowns continue to demonstrate why they remain one of the most formidable forces in South African women's football.
The Brazilians' ability to win even when not scoring freely is perhaps the most ominous sign for their rivals. They have combined efficiency in attack with an almost impenetrable defense, leaving the chasing pack with a significant challenge if they are to dislodge the champions.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: SIYAMTHANDA QASHANI
There was little debate over the standout performer of Round Seven.
Siyamthanda Qashani earns the Player of the Week accolade after her match-winning hat trick against TS Galaxy Queens. Her three goals not only secured maximum points for Tuks but also delivered a major statement against one of the league's leading sides.
With the race at the top beginning to intensify, Qashane's performance could prove to be one of the defining individual displays of the weekend.
Round Seven may have produced only 16 goals, but it delivered plenty of talking points: JvW tightening their grip at the top, Sundowns maintaining their defensive fortress and Qashane emerging as the weekend's headline act.
The Hollywoodbets Super League is beginning to heat up—and the gap between contenders and challengers is becoming increasingly fascinating.
