Guyana Amazon Warriors Crowned WCPL Champions After Thrilling Final Comeback

The Guyana Amazon Warriors have been crowned 2026 Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) champions after producing a remarkable two-wicket victory over the Trinbago Knight Riders in a dramatic final at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. Chasing 146 for victory, the Amazon Warriors reached 149/8 in 19.3 overs, completing their first-ever WCPL title after a tense finish.

Knight Riders post competitive 145/6

After winning the toss, Trinbago Knight Riders opted to bat and posted 145/6 from their 20 overs, setting Guyana a challenging target. Sushma Verma top-scored with 39 from 34 deliveries, while Shikha Pandey contributed 27 from 17 balls. Marizanne Kapp provided valuable late acceleration with 25 from just 10 deliveries, helping the Knight Riders finish strongly. 

For the Amazon Warriors, Proteas fast bowler Shabnim Ismail played a key role with the ball, finishing with 2/18 from her four overs. Her wickets helped keep the Knight Riders from posting an even larger total. 

The chase initially looked to be slipping away from Guyana. The Warriors lost regular wickets and were reduced to 71/6 in the 13th over, still requiring 74 runs from 46 deliveries. With the required rate climbing and the Knight Riders sensing an opportunity to claim the trophy, Guyana needed something special. That spark came from Chedean Nation and captain Chloe Tryon. Tryon launched an aggressive counter attack, scoring 32 from just 18 balls, while Nation transformed the contest with a sensational unbeaten 39 from 21 deliveries. The pair added 40 runs from only 23 balls, dramatically shifting momentum back towards the Amazon Warriors.

Tryon was eventually dismissed for 32 in the 17th over, but Nation continued to keep Guyana’s hopes alive. Even after Sheneta Grimmond was dismissed for 10 in the 19th over, the Warriors still required 16 runs from nine deliveries. Nation, however, remained composed under pressure. With the Warriors needing nine runs heading into the final over, Nation produced the defining moment of the final. She struck two consecutive sixes off Karishma Ramharack in the final over, bringing the Amazon Warriors to the brink of victory before completing the chase at 149/8 after 19.3 overs. Her unbeaten 39, which included four sixes, earned her the Player of the Match award. 

The victory sparked celebrations as the Guyana Amazon Warriors secured their maiden WCPL championship, having previously reached the final in 2023 and 2025.

South African stars make their mark

The final also featured several South African Proteas stars. Shabnim Ismail was instrumental with the ball, claiming 2/18 in four overs, while Chloe Tryon produced an important attacking innings of 32 from 18 balls during Guyana’s successful chase. Tazmin Brits contributed 22 runs, providing an important contribution before the Warriors’ middle and lower order completed the comeback. 

The championship capped an impressive campaign for Shemaine Campbelle, who was named Player of the Tournament after finishing the competition with 154 runs. For the Amazon Warriors, it was a night of resilience, individual brilliance and composure under pressure. From 71/6 and staring at defeat, Guyana fought back to lift their first WCPL trophy — with Nation’s extraordinary late-innings hitting providing the finishing touch to a historic championship victory.
