TUKS Coach Targets Top-Four Finish After Historic Victory

The University of Pretoria (TUKS) heads into the next Hollywoodbets Super League Amplified festival with renewed confidence after securing a landmark 2-0 victory over the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in Polokwane this past weekend. HWBSL Fixtures

The result was a significant milestone for the Tshwane outfit, marking their first-ever league victory over UWC after six previous meetings. It also handed TUKS their second win in three matches this season, lifting them to third place on the Super Era standings with six points. They currently sit one place above fourth-placed Copper Belts on goal difference, with both sides level on points.

Tuks' next challenge comes on Friday, 3 July, when they face Limpopo-based Copper Belts at 15h00 in Mpumalanga as the Hollywoodbets Super League Amplified continues at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium.

This fixture promises to be another closely contested affair between two in-form teams. Both TUKS and Copper Belts recorded victories during the Polokwane festival and will be looking to build on that momentum as they continue their pursuit of the league's top positions.

History favours the Pretoria side. Since 2023, the two teams have met six times in the league, with TUKS winning four matches, drawing one and losing just once. Their most recent meeting ended in a 2-0 victory for TUKS last season, extending their unbeaten run in the fixture to two consecutive seasons since 2024. Copper Belts' last victory over Tuks came in 2023 when they claimed a 2-1 win.

Despite the confidence gained from ending their long wait for a victory over UWC, TUKS head coach Sibusiso Themba insists his team cannot afford to dwell on the achievement.

"The league is very tight. We are happy to collect points as much as possible, especially against a team like UWC. It's a good one, but we can't be happy for this one. We have another one coming and we need to keep on pushing." Meet TUKS Player of the match

The coach believes consistency will be key in what is shaping up to be one of the most competitive Hollywoodbets Super League seasons in recent years, with several teams already emerging as genuine contenders.

While pleased with his side's start to the campaign, he has also outlined a clear objective for the season.

"Basically top four, that's our aim. We can't aim too weak. We will have to take one game at a time. We will see when the league is about to finish where we are, maybe we can start making other goals for the season, but for now we are taking it one game at a time."

The coach also reflected on his transition into the head coaching role, explaining that his previous experience within the setup made the change a seamless one.

"I have been an assistant coach for about two years. When I took over, I didn't struggle that much because I already knew who the players were and how we work. The change was not that much for me."

TUKS will now look to maintain their momentum against Copper Belts in one of the standout fixtures of the upcoming Hollywoodbets Super League Amplified festival in Mpumalanga.
