The festival got underway on Friday, 19 June, with an entertaining clash between Richmond United and Diepkloof Ladies. Diepkloof Ladies made an early statement when they found the back of the net in the ninth minute, but Richmond United responded almost immediately levelling matters just a minute later. With the match finely balanced heading into the second half, Richmond United returned with renewed energy and determination. Their efforts paid off when Zoe De Kock scored the decisive goal to hand her side the lead and ultimately  secure all the three points.

De Kock’s influential performance earned her the Player of the Match award. Reflecting on her display, she admitted that she had a slow start to the game. “At first half I didn’t try my best. In the second half, we got some motivational words from the coach and I think I came back stronger,” she said. The Richmond united forward also shared her ambitions for the season, setting her sights on national team recognition. “My goal for this season is to play for Banyana Banyana and to be in the starting 11 at least,” said De Kock.

Friday evening delivered another exciting encounter as Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies faced hosts AmaTuks. Sundowns showcased their attacking quality throughout the match, securing 4-0 victory and continuing their strong form in the league. Saturday’s action featured three entertaining fixtures, beginning with a closely contest clash between University of the Western Cape (UWC) and Stellenbosch FC. UWC edged the encounter 1-0 at Tuks Stadium, claiming a hard-fought victory and valuable three points.

One of the day’s exciting fixtures saw First Touch Ladies face Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). After a goalless first half, TUT broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, but First Touch Ladies struck late in stoppage time to secure a 1-1 draw and share the spoils. Reflecting on the result, TUT Coach Prof Ntwanano Alliance Kubanyi said “I think we played very well as a team and we managed to score a goal. They came at us, we made a mistake at the end, they were awarded a penalty, they scored, and it ended in a draw”.

The final match on Saturday saw JWV F.C produce a dominant display, cruising to a 4-0 victory over City Lads F.C to wrap up the day’s action in style. Gabriela Salgado Moodaly scored the opening goal in the game and Cimone Sauls and Mpumi Nyandeni each scored one to give JVW a 3-0 lead going in to the break. When the game returned JVW continued to show dominance in possession and attacking areas, however they could only get one more goal through Salgado-Moodaly to wrap up their second match of the season. Proteas Women Next Match Details
