Marumo Gallants Launches Diepkloof Ladies in the Super League

Marumo Gallants have marked a significant milestone in their commitment to women’s football following the acquisition and official launch of Diepkloof Ladies, who are set to compete in the Hollywoodbets Super League. The move will now operate under the club's women empowerment CSI initiative known as Marumo Cares to reinforce a growing trend of professional clubs investing in the women’s game, providing greater structure, visibility, and opportunity.

The launch signals more than participation—it represents a clear vision for long-term growth, driven by Technical Director Anna Monate. Central to her philosophy is recruiting players with strong character and untapped potential.

“I want players with characters,  you can tell when a player is hungry,” Monate said. “I didn’t understand why these teams got rid of these players, but can they be given a chance?”

Her approach focuses on restoring belief and offering opportunities to overlooked talent, building a team rooted in resilience and purpose.

Equally important is the all-female technical team assembled to guide the squad. Monate emphasised the importance of trust and shared experience: “I played with Sibongile Khumalo, we pushed each other and had respect on and off the pitch, and that’s what we want to teach these kids.”

She also highlighted the inclusion of emerging coaching talent: “I have brought in one of my products from Pietermaritzburg, the goalkeeper Coach Nonhle Nene. She is from the high performance Academy, now she’s got a B license and doing so well as a goalkeeper Coach and she’s still young.

I like someone with identity and the understanding of the game, not to come for the sake of adding numbers.”

Monate’s vision extends to discipline and identity: “ I want people who will come and fight until the end, even if we lose but we can still say we did our best. This is a team that we want to grow together and make sure that they respect Diepkloof Ladies.”

The squad features young and international talent, including players from Zimbabwe and Lesotho, reflecting diversity and ambition.

Technical Team: Anna Monate (Technical Director), Jabulile Baloyi (Head Coach), Sibongile Khumalo (Assistant Coach), Nonhle Nene (Goalkeeper Coach), Okuhle (Manager), Elizabeth Mazivize (Strength & Conditioning), Pauline Mnisi (Kit Manager).
