The 2025 Hollywoodbets Super League Awards lit up the Vodacom Dome in Midrand on Sunday, 1 February, as South Africa’s top-tier women’s football league honoured the standout performers from another fiercely competitive season.
TS Galaxy Queens forward Leandra Smeda was the biggest winner of the night, walking away with two major accolades. She claimed the Top Goal Scorer award after a sensational campaign that saw her net 22 goals, and was also crowned Player of the Season, underlining her impact and consistency throughout the year.
The Young Player of the Season award and Player’s Player award went to Bonolo Mokoma of JVW FC, who continues to impress with her maturity and performances at a young age. An emotional Mokoma dedicated her award to her mother, saying: “I feel excited and I am dedicating this award to my mother because she sacrifices herself a lot for me.”
Champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies also had their moment on stage as they were officially presented with a R2 000 000 cheque for winning the league. Players were present as they celebrated together, marking another historic achievement for the club. Masandawana’s Head Coach Godfrey Sapula was named Coach of the Season after guiding his side through another strong campaign, winning the league title back-to-back for a record sixth time.
Defender Karabo Dlamini took home the Defender of the Season award, highlighting Sundowns’ dominance and defensive stability. Banyana Ba Style finished the campaign with only seven goals conceded and 80 points secured.
JVW FC’s influence in midfield was rewarded as Jessica Wade claimed the Midfielder of the Season accolade after a series of commanding performances. Wade, who is twenty-two years old was absent from the awards ceremony as she has joined Åland United in Finland on a two-year contract.
TS Galaxy Queens’ Dineo Magagula was recognised as Goalkeeper of the Season. In her acceptance speech, she thanked her teammates and technical staff, adding: “This year let’s make it big, let’s get more individual awards at the end of the season. I believe in you all as much as I believe in myself.”
Match officials were also honoured on the night, with Jean Ndebele named Referee of the Season, while Nolitha Mhlomi received the Assistant Referee of the Season award.
While the awards celebrated excellence from the past campaign, the Hollywoodbets Super League remains on a break and is yet to officially open for the new season. Dates for the league’s return are still awaited, especially with the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations scheduled to take place from 17 March to 3 April, which is expected to influence the domestic calendar.
