TNL 2025 Power Week 2: Jamie van Wyk and Jaguars Aim Higher After Mixed Results in Power Week 1

The Telkom Netball League (TNL) returns with Power Week 2 kicking off today at Sun City, and one of the teams looking to make a powerful statement is the Jaguars. After an up-and-down showing in Power Week 1 that saw them finish fourth on the table with three wins and three losses, the team is eager to bounce back—and according to star defender Jamie van Wyk, they are more determined than ever.

Van Wyk, who received individual recognition for her standout performances in the opening week, remains humble about her accolades. “I am overjoyed with the prizes I received. It always feels good to get some type of reward for the hard work that gets put in,” she said. “Although I received the prizes, it was definitely a team effort.”

Reflecting on the Jaguars' performance in the first leg, Van Wyk acknowledged a slow start but was quick to highlight the team’s growth as the week progressed. “We started a bit rocky in the beginning trying to find our feet, but as the tournament progressed, we started connecting and it just got better and better,” she said. “One of the positives I took from the team is the accountability aspect. We all took accountability of where we need to work on and to know what each and every single person's role is.”

As one of the key anchors in defence, van Wyk emphasized the importance of communication and energy on court. “Some of my main focus points were being the loud communicator and creating a dominant atmosphere where opposing attacking units are put under pressure. We want them to think twice before passing the ball into the circle.”

Despite some tough results, one match stood out for van Wyk: the game against the Fireballs. “Even though we lost, there were so many lessons we could take from it,” she said. “One of the key aspects is to have a good start and to finish strong. This game showed us a glimpse of what we can actually do as a team.”

Heading into Power Week 2, the Jaguars have been working hard behind the scenes to address areas of concern. “One of the main factors we are focusing on is being intentional with what we do at training,” she explained. “We don’t want to just go through the motions but to actually focus on the things we struggled at in TNL leg 1.” More TNL News

With renewed focus and a hunger to prove their true potential, van Wyk believes the Jaguars are ready to show what they’re made of. “Having a dominant start will be the main focus point when playing in TNL leg 2 but also to show the other teams what we are capable of,” she said. “The first leg didn’t quite show our strengths, so it’s exciting to see how the team shows up and plays in the second leg.”
